General Job Duties:

It is the responsibility of the Fabrication Apprentice to learn all the duties and functions performed by the Fabrication Manager including but not limited to:

  • Works with Fabrication Manager to review production orders to ascertain product information such as types, quantities and specifications and scheduled delivery dates to plan fabrication operations.

  • Coordinates objectives in cooperation with managers to maximize product reliability and minimize costs

  • Selects sewing supplies to join, gather, hem, reinforce or fabricate

  • Observes stitching to detect defects due to workmanship or machine malfunction

  • Maintains quality control

  • Performs regular maintenance and minor equipment repairs

  • Leads a fabrication team of up to 4 individuals

  • Completes production reports

  • Participates in weekly safety meetings and follows all safety protocols

  • Fills in for the Fabrication Manager as needed

Job Requirements:

  • Be a minimum of 18 years of age

  • Must be able to proficiently operate and maintain sewing machines

  • Must possess mechanical aptitude

  • Must be able to consistently demonstrate excellent, on-time attendance

  • Ability to read and interpret drawings, custom work orders, and documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals

  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out written, oral, or diagram instructions furnished

  • Ability to apply basic concepts of algebra and geometry such as calculate figures and amounts such as proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume

  • Ability to solve problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations

  • Must maintain Forklift Safety Certification; and, safely operate a forklift and pole truck

  • Be able to lift and move up to 50 lbs. throughout the shift when necessary

  • Be able to pass a criminal background check and drug screen

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.

  • Two or more years work experience in a manufacturing environment preferred

  • Ability to read blueprints, some experience with equipment repair is a plus
